Local communities were invited to get involved and have their say on the new policies for Exmoor National Park which will be contained in a document called ‘Your Future Exmoor’ as part of the LDF. This will replace the adopted Local Plan (2005).
Get Involved and Have Your Say!
We wanted to hear how local communities would like to see Exmoor evolve in the future and how we can work together to achieve this. The community consultation programme was a real opportunity for local communities to contribute towards new planning policies and help decide important issues such as where new housing and business development should be provided over the next 15-20 years as well as issues relating to the natural environment, cultural environment, services, transport, infrastructure and climate change.
Your Events
Nearly a thousand people attended the 21 events held in each of the parishes with towns and villages in the National Park through January and March 2010. The events were tailored to individual parishes and designed to be interactive and gather views on the matters and issues important to the local community. For some parishes there were two ‘replica events’ held in neighbouring parishes at different times of day to enable people to attend in one of the parishes at a time convenient to them.

Feedback Reports
Two versions of the feedback reports will be produced for the events. A full copy of all the results and comments will be sent to Parish and Town Councils and summary reports will be made available to the local community in local services such as shops and pubs. Both versions will be available to download in the table below.

YOUTH CONSULTATIONS
We have been working with children at the First, Middle and Primary Schools within the National Park and nearby colleges to gather the views of young people on how they would like to see Exmoor evolve in the future. Details of the school children’s work were displayed at the community events and feedback will be provided during the summer term.

YOUR FUTURE EXMOOR SURVEYS
During part of 2009 and 2010 a Your Future Exmoor visitor survey was conducted. A report has been produced based on the findings from this survey.

A further survey for local residents was undertaken through the Parklife community newspaper which is delivered to all households within the National Park. It provided a further opportunity for local people to give their views, particularly if they were unable to attend one of the community events.
