Volunteering on Exmoor is Important.
Volunteering is vital to Exmoor National Park Authority. Not only does it provide valuable resources to enable the Authority to carry out its work, it also meets both of the Authorities key aims – By carrying out a range of practical conservation work volunteers are helping to ‘To conserve and enhance the natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage of the National Park’ and by training volunteers and explaining why work is being undertaken we also ‘Promote opportunities for the understanding and enjoyment of the special qualities of the Park by the public’. These opportunities then increase as volunteers then pass on this information to friends and family.
In addition to this by providing a social network and training opportunities volunteering goes some way to enhance the social and economic well being of the local communities. You might even get fitter, and working with local people helps us to understand what is important and what issues are of concern to them.
Exmoor Conservation Volunteers Partnership (ECVP)
Exmoor National Park Authority runs a partnership of key public bodies and charities who together manage large parts of Exmoor. Together these organisations make up the Exmoor Conservation Volunteer Partnership (ECVP). The organisations currently signed up to the scheme include The Crown Estate at Dunster, the National Trust at Holnicote, the South West Lakes at Wimbleball Lake and the Somerset Wildlife Trust
