Historic Environment Record Online
For the first time information for the whole of Exmoor has been made available on-line via the Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record on Heritage Gateway www.heritagegateway.org.uk
The Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record (ENPHER) is a unique collection of information about Exmoor’s past. It comprises a searchable database, which collects and organises information so that users can find specific details on their areas of interest. All known archaeological and historic sites within Exmoor National Park are recorded in the database, including archaeological monuments, historic buildings, historic landscapes, industrial archaeology, military sites and historic boundaries. New research on the historic environment is added regularly, so that the ENPHER is continually growing.
Faye Glover, Historic Environment Record Officer at Exmoor National Park Authority said: “We would love to hear from local history groups, academics and anyone with an interest in the historic environment of Exmoor who have information on archaeological and historic sites, so that anything new and relevant can be added to the database.”
In addition to being able to access the Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record on the Heritage Gateway website, it is possible to explore local and national heritage records alongside each other. Visit www.heritagegateway.org.uk to explore Exmoor’s past.
