Fishing On Exmoor
A combination of beautiful scenery, abundant wildlife and exceptionally clean water makes fishing the rivers and streams on Exmoor a special pleasure. Permit fishing is available on the East Lyn, the Barle and the Exe along with a number of pools and reservoirs. A number of operators also offer lessons – see Active Exmoor for details.
Excellent sea fishing is also available for free (except for lost tackle!) along much of our stunning coastline with catches of bass, cod, whiting, conger and skate all reported. Some of the stony beaches and rocky headlands are limited by the state of the tide and can be hard on tackle. Joining an escorted boat fishing trip can be a more reliable way to catch sea fish and there are many trips to choose from at very reasonable prices. Boats run from Minehead, Combe Martin, Porlock Weir, Watchet and Ilfracombe - see Active Exmoor for details.
Note: Any angler aged 12 years or over, fishing for salmon, trout, freshwater fish or eels on Exmoor must have an Environment Agency rod license. An owners fishing permit is also normally required - including some reservoirs owned by water companies.
